Automatic installation#

The fastest way to a running i-doit: A script installs and configures everything needed on a fresh Linux system — Apache, PHP, MariaDB, i-doit itself, as well as cron jobs and backups.

Prerequisites#

  • The system requirements must be met. The LAMP stack (Apache Web Server, MariaDB/MySQL, PHP) mentioned there is excluded from this.
  • One of the supported GNU/Linux operating systems is freshly installed.
  • The system can access package repositories and i-doit web services via an internet connection.

Usage#

The installation is handled by a script that is executed on the operating system.
The following steps take place on the command line. You can connect via SSH, for example. Then download the script and make it executable:

The script must be executed with root privileges. If sudo is available:

Alternatively, log in as root:

The script asks several configuration questions. All questions have predefined answers that can be accepted by pressing ENTER.

What the script does#

Before it changes anything, the script lists its steps and asks for confirmation before each of them, so individual steps can be skipped. In this order it:

  1. detects the operating system and checks the hardware and software requirements,
  2. optionally configures a proxy server for the web access it needs,
  3. installs the required distribution packages, including memcached,
  4. configures PHP and PHP-FPM,
  5. configures the Apache web server (virtual host for i-doit, event MPM),
  6. configures MariaDB (for example the size of the InnoDB buffer pool),
  7. downloads and installs the latest i-doit version in the variant you choose (EVAL, pro, or open) and optionally creates the first tenant,
  8. deploys the cron jobs and the idoit command line wrapper for console.php,
  9. deploys the idoit-backup and idoit-restore scripts and creates the first backup.
